Profile of The Department

With the enactment of the Factories Act 1948 keeping in view its provisions relating to health, safety and welfare, appointment of Welfare Officer became mandatory on the part of the employer. The department was started to provide specialized educationand training to the students who were to seek jobs in the areas of industrial relations, labour welfare, Govt. labour departments of states and the entire other welfare agencies and careers in trade unions. It was the collective foresights of Sir C.P.N. Sinha, the then Vice-Chancellor of Patna University, Dr. Gorakh Nath Sinha, the then Head of Economics department and above all Late Sri Jagjivan Ram, the then Union Minister of Labour which brought the department as an academic specialized centre in 1948. The part time faculties included Dr. V.K.N. Menon, the then Head of PoliticalScience, Dr. B.R. Mishra, the then Head of Applied Economics Commerce, Dr. H.P. Maiti, the then Director of Psychological Research Institute,Dr. Ramola Nandi, Principal of M.M. College. The other set included the names of Prof. B. Gopal, Prof. A.D. Singh, Prof. Durganand Sinha, Prof. Diwakar Jha, Dr. M.Z. Abidin, Dr. D.N. Lal and Dr. Namdeshwar Prasad of Sociology Department. Dr. G.P. Sinha was the founder Head of the Department.Read More...
